The Safari of painted Elephants and Turtles is a unique experience to raise funds for Geronimo Springs Museum. Eight very talented professional New Mexico artists hand-painted four large bisque elephants and four bisque turtles with removable shells. When purchasing a raffle ticket the Hunter includes on the ticket the name of the artist of the piece they would like to win. This enters the Hunter into a drawing for that specific Elephant or Turtle. If the Hunter likes more than one piece, additional tickets may be purchased. A drawing for each unique piece of art will take place in late February. The Hunter whose name is on the lucky raffle ticket in each drawing will become the proud owner of one of this years Painted Elephants or Turtles.

Painted Elephants and Turtles are on exhibit at Geronimo Springs Museum. Raffle tickets are on sale at the same location, as well as some sponsor’s locations. Tickets are $10.00 each, and may be purchased by calling Geronimo Springs Museum at 575-894-6600 and giving your name, address, telephone number, the name of the artist whose piece you wish to win, and your Visa or MasterCard number, or by mailing a check with the required information to Geronimo Springs Museum, 211 Main Street, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901.

Geronimo Springs Museum complex was built in a collection of historic downtown buildings joined by entryways, front passages and roofs. Created in 1972, the Museum is in need of a new roof on the entire structure to protect the wonderful collection of treasures housed within. A new roof over multiple buildings is a daunting task requiring a substantial amount of money. We created the Safari of Painted Elephants and Turtles in 2006 to raise awareness of this need as well as to raise funds for this major project.

As Geronimo Springs Museum is solely owned and operated by Sierra County Historical Society, a non-profit organization, we receive no Federal or State monies, and rely on donations and fund raisers by the general public for operating expenses, maintenance and repairs. All proceeds from this project will go directly into the roofing fund. Tickets are available at Geronimo Springs Museum in Truth or Consequences, Celestial Creations in Truth or Consequences, Wiley’s Place (formerly Joker’s Pub) in Albuquerque, and Reese-Benton Gallery in Silvery City. All pieces are on display at Geronimo Springs Museum, with a poster of the pieces on display at sponsoring locations and locations selling tickets.
